FAQ's
 
Listed below are some of the more frequently asked questions.
For District policies, rules, procedures, forms, etc., check the Parent Information Packet which you received in the mail before school started. An electronic version of the MDUSD Parent Information Packet can also be found on the MDUSD Website.

Q: What do I do if my child is going to be absent?
 
A: If your child is absent from school for any reason, please call the school at (925) 935-5721 or click on the Report an Absence link on Sequoia’s homepage. Students' absences are excused for illness, professional medical appointments, or to attend the funeral of a member of the immediate family. While we do not advocate sending sick students to school, school attendance is very important. If your child needs to be absent for part of the day for any reason, it is better to send your child for part of the day rather than miss an entire day. Upon returning to school, please send a signed note noting the dates and reason for your child’s absence.

Q: How do I get makeup work for my child who is out ill?

A: Parents may request homework on the first day of the child's absence. Contact the school office before 9:30 a.m. Assignments may be picked up at the close of the regular school day.

Q: What if my child is late to school?
 
A: We need your help in making sure that your child arrives to school on time. A complete bell schedule can be seen here: Bell Schedule. If your child is late, he/she must check in at the school office and get a tardy pass in order to be admitted to the classroom.

Q: What if I am going to be late picking up my child after school?
 
A: Any student remaining on campus after school must be directly supervised by a parent. Students not picked up by 3:15 p.m. must wait in the office for their parent/guardian. Please instruct your child that if they don't see you at your regular pick up place after school, they should go to the office. We want to keep all of our students safe.
 
Q: What do I do if I have to pick up my child early?
 
A: Parents picking up their child before the end of the school day must come to the office and sign out their child. Students are not released from the classroom. Students will only be released to persons designated on the Emergency Card.

Q: How is my child expected to behave at school?
 
A: At Sequoia Elementary, we are proud to offer "Character Counts!" in which we promote the Six Pillars of Character:  Trustworthiness, Respect, Responsibility, Fairness, Caring, and Citizenship. These six core ethical values form the foundation in which we help teach our students how to be responsible and caring individuals within our school and community. To obtain more detailed information on this educational program, click HERE and also refer to your Parent Student Handbook which is available by clicking HERE.

Q: Where is the Lost and Found?

A: Sequoia's lost and found is located in the Multi Use Room ("MUR"). We accumulate many jackets and sweaters, gloves and lunchboxes. Items left unclaimed are donated to charity at the winter break, spring break and close of the school year. Valuable articles such as money, wallets, charms, glasses, etc., are kept in the school office. Parents are urged to carefully label all clothing items such as sweaters, hats, jackets, etc., so that they can be easily returned.
